Fancy company. How'd he like playing Fauci?

Yeah, I just edited that headline.

One of these days I’d like to rewatch Troy with Gabriel Yared’s rejected score.

Don’t know anything about that. I do know that the (real) siege of Troy lasted 10 yeas, and this movie feels like it’s at least that long.

That’s fake, though.

I have no idea, don’t remember the movie that much.

The movie sucked, but I read The Odyssey while taking driver’s Ed in high school, so there’s a weird connection for me.

I read The Odyssey a few years ago in a fantastic translation by Robert Fagles. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but then again, I enjoyed Moby Dick too. I’ve also got the Fagles translation of The Iliad , which I have not read yet. But watching a bit of the movie caused me to get the book off the shelf.

The best thing about that movie is that it sent me down a rabbit hole looking at the archeological evidence for ancient Troy. It’s fascinating.
The best role in the movie wasn’t even who I would have thought. It was Eric Bana.

RUNAWAY!!!!
What was the plan again?
After nightfall, Lancelot, Galahad, and I leap OUT of the rabbit, taking them completely by surprise...
Who leaps out of the rabbit?
Lancelot, Galahad, and I...
*realization*
Perhaps if we built a large wooden badger....

It’s a movie I like more than I should as it’s not good, objectively speaking. I will say that I think the scene with King Priam getting his son's body back from Achilles is legitimately great and heartfelt.

We recorded the last hour or so and will watch it with the commercials skipped.

Oops, spoilers. You'll never guess who wins in the end.

No worries. I know the story.

A book to read: The March of Folly: From Troy to Vietnam , by Barbara Tuchman. It’s the book that got me hooked on history . It’s a great book.

M’lady and I saw Troy at the Sun Picture Gardens in Broome, Western Australia in whenever it was (2004?). If you are ever in Broome it is just something you have to do since it is an open air picture theatre with deck chairs as seating and it’s apparently the oldest in the world...
Given the only other time I've been there I saw Blues Brothers 2000, I'd say that Broome's Sun Picture Theatre Garden is on two strikes of the Turkey Factor from me...

Sounds like a nice place. I’ve never seen BB2000, ad I have no plans to.
